GOD’S PLAN FOR
MARRIAGE. By Zablon.
God created us as
male and female; both male and female were created in the image of God (Genesis
1:26).
God Himself
instituted marriage for three reasons.
The
first reason was for fellowship.
God saw that it was not good for the man to be
alone, and so He made a helper for the man (Genesis 2:18).
The
second reason God instituted marriage was so that families could be established
by having children.
God told the man and
woman to be fruitful and increase in
number (Genesis 1:28).
A third
reason for marriage was for sexual satisfaction.
For this reason a man will leave his father and
mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh. The man and
his wife were both naked, and they felt no shame (Genesis 2:24-25: Proverbs 5:15-21: Song of Songs
Chapter 1-8).
Both Adam (the first
man) and Eve (the first woman) Shared in dominion over all the earth (Genesis
1:26-28).
But through sin Adam
and Eve fell from God’s original plan .Their sin immediately resulted in shame
and separation between them (Genesis 3:7), accusation (Genesis 3:12), and the
rule of husband over wife (Genesis 3:16). In addition nature was no longer
under their dominion but was now their enemy (Genesis 3:17-19). It did not take
long for other evils to appear, among them murder (Genesis 4:8), polygamy
(Genesis 4:19), and revenge (Genesis 4:23). Divorce became common as well. The
law of Moses included statutes that were intended to limit the abuses of polygamy
(Exodus 21:10Deuteronomy 21:15-17) and divorce ( Deuteronomy 24:1-4), but God
never wanted either polygamy or divorce, from the beginning, His ideal for
mankind was that a man should remain married to one woman for life (Mathew 19:4-9). to be continued...
